Rugby League in the 1930s saw the rise of the champion Eastern Suburbs team.  A team from Canterbury joined the competition, and won their first premiership before the decade ended.

The decade saw the champion point scorer Dave Brown at the top of his game.  Other new stars such as Ray Stehr, Vic Hey, Viv Thicknesse, Frank McMillan and Wally Prigg emerged.
