A History of the Newcastle Knights
A History of the Newcastle Knights
2024 EDITION – Includes up to end of 2024 season
139 pages
The history of rugby league in Newcastle is as old as the game in Australia. The district had its own team in the first years of the competition, but withdrew to form its own league.
In 1988, the Newcastle Knights were granted admission into the league as part of the expansion process. They gained a reputation of being as tough as the district’s steel works, and won their first premiership in the code’s divided year of 1997.
Players such as Andrew Johns, Paul Harragon, Mat Gidley, Matthew Johns, Danny Buderus, Kurt Gidley, Timana Tahu, Steve Simpson, Ben Kennedy and Marc Glanville helped Newcastle to become a regular contender for the ultimate prize.
Relive each year of the Knights’ journey in a round by round account of the premier rugby league competition. Including statistical information, this is a must for rugby league fans everywhere.
