ENGLISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP UPDATE

The third round of the English Football League Cup continues tonight Australian time, with the match between Premier League front runners Liverpool and Chelsea the highlight.  Other matches including Premier League teams include Tottenham V Watford, and Everton V Southampton.  Arsenal take on Championship side Brentford, while West Ham are at home to fourth tier side Macclesfield.  Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Stoke also clash.

There were some upsets in the first part of the third round, played yesterday.  Manchester United were beaten 8-7 on penalties by Derby County at Old Trafford, after both teams were locked at 2-2 after extra time.  Premier league side Burnley crash out with a 3-1 loss to third tier Burton Albion; while third tier Blackpool upset Championship side Queens Park Rangers 2-0.

There were wins for Premier League teams Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Fulham, Leicester City, and defending champions, Manchester City.  Championship teams Middlesbrough and Norwich City have also advanced to the round of sixteen.
