FFA CUP UPDATE

September 26, 2018

Tonight sees the last two quarter-finals of the FFA Cup played to determine who joins Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers in the semi-finals.  The Wanderers qualified last week with an impressive 3-1 win over Melbourne City; while Sydney FC struggled to beat Melbourne second tier side Avondale FC 4-2 in extra time.

Former National Soccer League heavyweights APIA Leichhardt are at home against A League side, Adelaide United.  APIA qualified for the quarter-finals with a 3-2 home triumph over another A League side, Melbourne Victory.  Adelaide will go in as favourites, despite having some trouble putting away second tier side Queensland Lions 1-0 in the Round of 16.

The last quarter-final sees two second tier teams from Melbourne clash.  Bentleigh Greens face Heidelberg United.  Bentleigh Greens advanced to the quarter-finals with a 4-0 thumping of Broadmeadow Magic in Newcastle, on the back of three goals from Chris Lucas.  Heidelberg also had a 4-0 win at last start, beating the second tier Adelaide Comets in Adelaide.  The winner of this game will be just one victory away from playing in the FFA Cup Final.
