ONE DAY DOMESTIC COMPETITION UPDATE

We are barely more than a week into the One Day Domestic competition, known as the JLT One Day Cup, but already competition is hotting up.  There is a three way tie at the top, with Western Australia unbeaten in their two games, and Victoria and Tasmania each winning two of their three.

Here are the highlights of the matches so far.

QLD V VIC

September 16, 2018 in Townsville

Victoria batted first, and made 240, before being bowled out with nine balls to spare.  Glenn Maxwell top scored with 80 from 91 balls, while Nic Maddison chipped in with 68.  Mark Steketee was the best of the Queensland bowlers, taking 4/35.

In reply, Queensland’s middle order struggled, and they were bowled out for 227 in the 47th over.  Mitchell Swepson was an unlikely hero with the bat, making 77 from 78 balls.  Will Sutherland took 5/45 for Victoria, and Chris Tremain chipped in with three wickets in the thirteen run victory.

 

WA V NSW

September 18, 2018 in Perth

New South Wales batted first, but struggled early, despite Nick Larkin and Jack Edwards making starts.  Daniel Sams top scored with 62 from 60 balls, as NSW were bowled out for 204 in the 44th over.  Cameron Green and Andrew Tye each took three wickets for Western Australia.

Opener Josh Philippe got the home side off to a good start, smashing 59 from 59 deliveries.  Ashton Turner then made a blistering 70 not out from just 55 balls, as WA roped in the total in the 33rd over, with four wickets in hand.  Daniel Sams took 3/46 in a great all round display.

 

TAS V VIC

September 19, 2018 in Townsville

Tasmania began their campaign in style, with openers Ben McDermott and Matthew Wade making a stand of 170, before McDermott went for 56.  Matthew Wade went on to make 117, anchoring a scoreline of 8/321.

In reply, Victoria were bowled out for 256 in the 48th over.  Marcus Harris top scored with 69.  Clive Rose and Tom Rogers each took four wickets for Tasmania.

 

SA V NSW

September 20, 2018 in Perth

New South Wales were sent into bat by South Australia, and made 241.  Opener Daniel Hughes scored 79 from 98 deliveries, and received support from Jack Edwards (42), and Daniel Sams (30).  Adam Zampa took 3/37 for SA.

Jake Weatherald blasted 106 not out from 98 balls, and Jake Lehmann chimed in with 87, as South Australia easily reached the target in the 39th over, for the loss of just three wickets.

 

QLD V TAS

September 22, 2018 in Townsville

Queensland openers Max Bryant and Sam Heazlett made solid starts, but it was up to Chris Lynn (70), Charlie Hemphrey (58), and a 47 not out from veteran Joe Burns to help the home side to a score of 6/316.  Riley Meredith took three wickets for Tasmania.

Ben McDermott continued his impressive early season form, scoring 117 from 125 balls.  Jordan Silk scored 85, and Simon Maleno chipped in with an unbeaten 50, as Tasmania reached the target in the 49th over, with four wickets in hand.  Mark Steketee took four wickets for Queensland.

 

WA V SA

September 22, 2018 in Perth

South Australia were sent into bat by Western Australia.  Opener Alex Carey made 58, as SA made 9/237.  Andrew Tye and Nathan Coulter-Nile each took three wickets for Western Australia.

In reply, Western Australian opener Josh Inglis scored 50, while Ashton Taylor, Hilton Cartwright, and Jonathan Wells all reached 40+ as the home side recorded victory in the 46th over, with five wickets in hand.

 

NSW V VIC

September 23, 2018 in North Sydney

The home side won the toss and sent Victoria in to bat.  Veteran Cameron White was at his best, clobbering 123 from 139 deliveries, as Victoria racked up a score of 327.  Peter Handscomb chipped in with 89 from 79 balls.  Sean Abbott took five wickets for New South Wales.

Moises Henriques blasted 77, and Kurtis Patterson made 48 to give NSW a chance after a shaky start.  All-rounder Daniel Sams smashed 56 from 36 balls, but the home side was bowled out for just 261 in the 42nd over.  Jackson Coleman took five wickets for Victoria.

 

SA V QLD

September 25, 2018 in Hurstville

Alex Carey scored a quick fire 42, before Tom Cooper compiled 139 from 134 balls to set up South Australia’s total of 280.  Xavier Bartlett and Billy Stanlake each took three wickets for Queensland.

Openers Sam Heazlett and Mark Bryant found form in reply.  Heazlett made 80, and Bryant scored 71, to set up Queensland’s win.  Chris Lynn ensured victory by scoring an unbeaten 106 from 71 deliveries.  Queensland reached their target in the 36th over, with seven wickets in hand.  Adam Zampa took all three wickets for South Australia.

 

NSW V TAS

September 25, 2018 in North Sydney

Jack Edwards top scored with 68 for New South Wales as they made a total of 239, as they continued to search for their first win of the competition.  Gurinder Sandhu took four wickets for Tasmania.

In reply, Tasmania collapsed to be all out for 151 in the 32nd over.  Sean Abbott took a five wicket haul for the second time in the competition, as New South Wales secured their first victory.
