What happened in this week in wrestling was Daniel Bryan started to become relevant again. I’m the first to admit I was a massive fan of the YES movement which culminated in Daniel Bryan winning the World Title at Wrestlemania. I still think the Occupy RAW segment is one of the most iconic clips in WWE history.
However, since Daniel returned to the ring earlier in the year, he has become what Triple H and Stephanie McMahon taunted him as a few years ago. A B+ player. I get it. The WWE had to make sure Daniel wouldn’t injure himself again, so they’ve been treading carefully with his booking. Say what you want about The Miz, but I don’t think he has ever hurt anyone in the ring.
So Daniel Bryan will face The Miz in Melbourne for a shot at the WWE World Championship. I kind of like the idea of AJ Styles V Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series, so I’m happy to see where this one goes. I just hope AJ doesn’t lose to give Daniel another feel good moment. Styles has absolutely carried the WWE this year, and deserves better.
The Undertaker V Triple H hype continues. Kane and Shawn Michaels have been added as seconds like Kenickie to Danny Zuko; but it all seems a bit pointless. Triple H will continue to pop up as the evil authority figure, and The Undertaker…well, who knows now how this story actually ends?
If WWE thinks fans will cheer for Roman Reigns over Braun Strowman just because Braun says the fans suck, they are very much mistaken. I actually feel sorry for Roman – he gets way too much heat, but I understand why. Having The Shield back together does nothing for any of them, and actually diminishes Seth and Dean. I don’t see how this one pans out.
After building Asuka for so long, I’m disappointed that she is in tag team matches while Becky and Charlotte continue their feud. Since Wrestlemania, Asuka has become just another member of the division. On RAW, I thought there’d be a heel turn from the Bellas against Ronda and Natalya. I hope they hang off on that for a while, because I’m really enjoying Alexa Bliss trying to get the title back from Ronda.
I just also want to say also I’m bummed about the injury to Erick Rowan. I miss Luke Harper on my television. I also miss Bray Wyatt. They are two of the most talented guys on the roster, so I hope creative finds something for them very soon.
Simone Johnson made a little piece of history this week when she entered the WWE Performance Centre. Simone, the daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is the first fourth generation wrestler in the WWE. I hope she makes it.
Away from the WWE, NWA 70 is fast approaching. The event marks the 70th anniversary of the NWA which was once the most prestigious wrestling organisation in the world. NWA Champion Cody Rhodes will battle Nick Aldis for the title in a rematch from their All In event.|
