AUSTRALIA PROGRESS TO QUARTER FINALS AT HOCKEY WORLD CUP

December 8, 2018

Australia has progressed to the quarter finals of the Hockey World Cup with an emphatic 11-0 smashing of China.  Blake Govers opened the scoring in the tenth minute, and finished the game with three goals.  Australia had seven other scorers, with Tim Brand scoring a double.  China survive in the tournament after securing draws in their first two matches, and may have another chance against Australia if they can get past France on Monday.

Another win for Australia sets up a tough semi-final against either India, the Netherlands, or Canada.  India topped their group ahead of Belgium on percentages, while Netherlands finished second to Germany, and take on Canada, who finished with a solitary draw from their three matches.

The other side of the draw sees Germany and Argentina through to the quarter finals.  Germany will play the winner of Belgium and Pakistan, while Argentina awaits the winner of a clash between England and New Zealand.
