NFL – WEEK FOURTEEN

December 12, 2018

The NFL Playoff picture is looking a little clearer after round fourteen.  With three rounds to play, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Rams, and the New Orleans Saints have secured their spots.  The Rams and the Saints have won their divisional titles, while the Chiefs are a win ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs did it the hard way against the Baltimore Ravens, eventually running out winners by 27-24.  The Rams stumbled to a 15-6 loss to the Chicago Bears, while the Saints bounced back from last week’s loss to Dallas with a 28-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Houston Texans missed their chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs, going down 24-21 to the Indianapolis Colts.  The Texans remain two wins ahead of the Colts and the Tennessee Titans, who smashed the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-9.  Derrick Henry broke a franchise record for the Titans with 238 rush yards.

In AFC East Division, the leading New England Patriots went down to second placed Miami Dolphins by 34-33 in a thriller.  The Dolphins have now won five of their last six games against the Patriots in Miami, but remain two wins behind on the table.

The Pittsburgh Steelers went down 24-21 to the Oakland Raiders, but remain on top of AFC North, due to the Ravens’ loss to Kansas City.  In AFC West, the Chargers continue to put pressure on Kansas City, by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21.  It is the first time the Chargers have won ten games in a season since 2009.

The Dallas Cowboys moved a step closer to the playoffs with a 29-23 win over last year’s champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.  The result gives the Cowboys a two win lead over second placed Philadelphia.
