TAS V SA
South Australia’s Daniel Worrall continued his solid Shield form, taking four wickets as Tasmania were all out for 185 in the first innings of their match at Hobart, after being sent in to bat. Matthew Wade top scored with 43. In reply, the visitors could only make 136, with Travis Head leading the way with 49. Gabe Bell took 4/29 for Tasmania.
Opener Jordan Silk made 113 in the second innings to set up a score of 8/353 when Tasmania declared. Ben McDermott and George Bailey made half centuries, while Tim Paine scored an unbeaten 47. Daniel Worrall was again the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets.
Despite Callum Ferguson notching 111, South Australia fell short of the total, being all out for 213. Jackson Bird took 4/65 for Tasmania, while Gabe Bell added another three wickets. Tasmania won by 189 runs, and Jordan Silk was named Player of the Match.
QLD V VIC
Queensland were at home against Victoria, and sent the Shield leaders into bat after winning the toss. Victoria were reeling at 2/6 after losing openers Travis Dean and Marcus Harris, but a 50 from Aaron Finch, and 82 from Peter Handscomb steadied their innings. However, the tail folded cheaply, and Victoria were all out for 167. Mark Steketee took four wickets for Queensland.
Matthew Renshaw, recently overlooked for test selection, struggled in Queensland’s first innings, but Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja combined for a second wicket stand of 108 before Khawaja was dismissed for 41. Burns went on to make 96, and had solid support from Marcus Labuschagne who chipped in with 47 as Queensland recorded a total of 271. Peter Siddle took four wickets for Victoria, and Scott Boland notched 3/50.
Marcus Harris returned to form in Victoria’s second innings, making 62. Peter Handscomb made 53, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors being bundled out for 191. Mark Steketee took another four wickets for Queensland. The home side had little trouble reeling in the modest target. They won by eight wickets, but Victoria remains on top of the ladder. Joe Burns was named Player of the Match.
WA V NSW
Western Australia hosted New South Wales, and sent the visitors into bat after winning the toss. Kurtis Patterson scored an unbeaten 107, but received little support as New South Wales was dismissed for 261. Sean Abbott chimed in with a late 69. Jhye Richardson compiled career best figures of 8/47.
In reply, the hosts succumbed to be all out for just 198. Shaun Marsh top scored with 81. Trent Copeland took 4/52 for New South Wales, and Nathan Lyon finished with three wickets. The Blues made 253 in their second innings. Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques and Jack Edwards all made scores in the 40s, but couldn’t capitalize. Jhye Richardson took another three wickets, as did Marcus Stoinis.
Marcus Stoinis continued to show his worth as an all-rounder possibility for Australia, as he top scored with 81 in Western Australia’s second innings. The home side was dismissed for 212, giving New South Wales victory by 104 runs. Nathan Lyon took four wickets, and Trent Copeland and Sean Abbott each took three. Kurtis Patterson was named Player of the Match, and New South Wales leapfrogged Western Australia into second place on the ladder, behind Victoria.
