JEFF HORN DEFEATS ANTHONY MUNDINE

December 2, 2018

In the end it took just 96 seconds for Jeff Horn to end the storied boxing career of Anthony Mundine.  In his first fight since losing the WBO welterweight title to American Trevor Crawford in June, Horn stepped up in weight to claim the vacant WBA Oceania middleweight title, as well as Mundine’s WBO Oriental middleweight title.  Mundine won that belt in his last fight against Tommy Browne in Sydney in January.

After the fight, Mundine confirmed what many new all along.  The bravado, the trash talk, the controversy - all part of the show.  The former multi-time World Champion can be credited for recreating interesting in boxing in Australia after sensationally quitting rugby league in 2000.  His showdowns with Danny Green have become legendary.  In the end, perhaps Father Time beat him as much as Horn did, as it does to us all.

As for Jeff Horn, the future looks bright.  Another bout with Crawford is on his radar, as may be another encounter with Manny Pacquio, who Horn upset to win the WBO welterweight title in July 2017.  It seems the former school teacher has the world at his feet.  Still aged just 30, Horn could become the new Man of Australian boxing for the next decade.
