AUSTRALIA OFF TO A GOOD START AT HOCKEY WORLD CUP

Australia has started well at the men’s hockey World Cup in India, recording a 2-1 victory over Ireland.  Led by Eddie Ockenden, the Kookaburras went ahead in the eleventh minute, thanks to a goal from Blake Govers.  Ireland hit back two minutes later with a goal from Shane O’Donoghue to tie the scores.

Australia went ahead 2-1 in the 34th minute, courtesy of a goal from Tim Brand.  The Kookaburras held on for the win to be on top of their group after the first round.  Australia will face England and China in the next week.
