The Belgian team of Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry have upset their more fancied rivals to take out the World Cup of Golf in Melbourne, three strokes ahead of teams from Australia and Mexico. Pieters, ranked 70 in the world before the tournament, and Detry, ranked 140, had Belgium in front by five strokes going into the final day.
The Australian pairing of Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith had the home team with a share of the lead after the first day, but they struggled with the gusty conditions on day two. Mexico made a late charge towards the finish after entering the final day in seventh place. Their team consisted of the 2018 Australian Open winner Abraham Ancer, and Roberto Diaz, ranked at number 742.
