THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING, OCTOBER 30, 2018

October 30, 2018

It turns out the rumours were true.  While this week on wrestling saw the first all woman’s event, Evolution take place, the real story was Daniel Bryan refusing to travel to Saudi Arabia for the Crown Jewel event on Friday.  Instead, Bryan’s title match against AJ Styles was held on Smackdown, with Styles winning via submission when Bryan tapped out to the calf crusher after an excellent match, worthy of the talents of both competitors.  After the match, Samoa Joe made his return, and took out both men.  Joe will take Bryan’s place in the World Title match at Crown Jewel.

Evolution saw an intense Last Woman Standing championship match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte, with Lynch retaining her title.  Ronda Rousey held her championship by defeating Nikki Bella, while Nia Jax won a battle royal to gain a world title shot.

It had already been reports John Cena would not be taking part at Crown Jewel, and his spot in the World Cup has been taken by Bobby Lashley.  The WWE continued to hype the event with a tag match between Randy Orton and The Miz up against Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio.  The faces won the match, but afterwards Orton hit all there men with the RKO.

Braun Strowman will battle Brock Lesnar for the vacant Universal Championship.  Strowman was the victim of an F5 on Raw.  Seth Rollins, who is involved in the World Cup tournament, had no luck getting any answers from Dean Ambrose about last week’s vicious attack, while it seems Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre are taking a back seat in this storyline.

Crown Jewel is on Saturday (Australian time).  The main event sees Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement to team with Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane.
