Local favourite Karen Khachanov has won the Kremlin Cup, beating unseeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Khachanov becomes the first Russian to win the Kremlin Cup since Mikhail Youzhny defeated Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic in 2009.
At the Stockholm Open, Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Latvian qualifier Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Tsitsipas becomes the first Greek player to win the tournament, which began in 1969. He joins the winners’ list that includes legends of the game, such as Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Stefan Edberg, and four time champion Boris Becker.
In Belgium, British player Kyle Edmund defeated Gael Monfils 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 to claim the European Open title. Edmund joins Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfired Tsonga as champions of the relatively new event on the ATP calendar.
In the women’s game, Daria Kasatkina won the Kremlin Cup with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur. Kasatkina becomes the first Russian to win the home event since Elena Dementieva beat Serena Williams in the final in 2007.
