AUSTRALIA HUMBLED IN SECOND TEST

October 20, 2018

Australia has been humbled by Pakistan in the second test in Abu Dhabi.  After resuming at 2/20, the Aussies were bowled out for 145.  Aaron Finch top scored with 39, while Mohammad Abbas took 5/33 for Pakistan.

Already behind by 137 runs, Australia’s fortunes fell further when Usman Khawaja was ruled out for the rest of the match with a knee injury.  Babar Azam was the pick of Pakistan’s batsmen in the second innings, scoring 99 before being trapped lbw by Mitch Marsh.  Pakistan declared at 9/400, with Fakhar Zaman, Azhar Ali, and Sarfraz Ahmed all making half-centuries.  Nathan Lyon took four wickets for Australia.

Chasing an improbable 538 for victory, Australia were reduced to ten players, and it was again left to the newcomers to provide any hope of a spark.  Marnus Labuschagne top scored with 43, while Travis Head made 36, and Aaron Finch added 31, as Australia were all out for just 164.  Mohammad Abbas took another five wickets, and Yasir Shah finished with 3/45 as Pakistan cruised to victory, and wrapped up the series.
