New Zealand kept their slim hopes of winning their second Constellation Cup alive with a shock 55-44 win over Australia in Hamilton. After winning the first two games of the series, Australia was off their game from the start, and missed a chance to equal their record of ten straight wins against the Silver Ferns.
Veteran scorer Maria Folau was unstoppable for New Zealand, converting 40 of her 41 opportunities. Australia racked up a number of uncharacteristic penalties, which may be contributed to the pressure facing inexperienced players Jamie-Lee Price, Caitlyn Thwaites, and Gretel Tippett.
The final test will be played in Wellington on Thursday. New Zealand need to win by 14 points to claim the trophy for the first time since 2012.
