Sydney Roosters’ captain Boyd Cordner has capped off a triumphant season by being named the new captain of the Australian team. Cordner has been elevated into the role as a replacement for Greg Inglis, who has been suspended for the upcoming test matches against New Zealand and Tonga, following a driving incident earlier in the week.
Cordner became just the second player to lead his team to the premiership, as well as captaining New South Wales to victory in the State of Origin series in the same season, since Steve Mortimer in 1985. Coach Mal Meninga has no speculated on whether Inglis or Cordner will be captain in 2019.
