JLT SERIES UPDATE

October 1, 2018

Three more matches have been completed in the JLT Series over the long weekend.  Here is the latest update.

SA V VIC

September 30, 2018 at St Kilda.

South Australia won the toss and elected to bat.  Struggling at 2/30, a partnership of 109 from Callum Ferguson and Jake Lehmann helped save the innings.  Lehmann went for 44, but Ferguson powered to a score of 133 from 125 deliveries.  Tom Cooper chimed in with 37, as South Australia compiled a score of 7/265.

Cameron White helped Victoria get off to a good start to the run chase, but received little help from his top order.  White finished on 81 from 102 balls.  Peter Handscomb scored 64, and Glenn Maxwell contributed 33, before the tail fell away, leaving Victoria all out for 257.  Joe Mennie and Adam Zampa each took three wickets for South Australia.

TAS V WA

October 1, 2018 in Hurstville

Western Australia continued their winning streak in the one day domestic competition, beating Tasmania to remain undefeated after five rounds.  Tasmania were sent in to bat, and started well, with Matthew Wade making 33, and Ben McDermott continuing his good form with 76 from 77 balls.  George Bailey top scored with 79, and Tom Rogers and Clive Rose each chipped in with 32, as Tasmania finished on 8/290.

Jose Philippe blasted a quick fire 50 from 33 balls to get Western Australia off to a promising start.  D’Arcy Short belted 63 from 61 balls, before Marcus Stoinis smashed an unbeaten 93 from just 49 deliveries.  Stoinis was at the crease with Jhye Richardson at the end of the innings.  Richardson finished on 29 not out, as WA wrapped up the victory in the 41st over with five wickets in hand.

QLD V NSW

October 1, 2018 in Drummoyne

Queensland won the toss and elected to bat.  A steady 48 from Sam Heazlett helped the visitors to a good start; but it was a blistering 135 from Chris Lynn that had the fans excited.  Joe Burns chipped in with 30, but the tail collapsed, and Queensland were all out for 296 in the 48th over.  Chris Green was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5/53; while Daniel Sams took 3/50.

New South Wales were in awful trouble after losing Daniel Hughes and Kurtis Patterson to be 2/17 in the third over.  Opener Jack Edwards and the experienced Moises Henriques batted steadily to keep their team in the game.  The pair notched their 200 run partnership in the 36th over.  In the 37th, Jack Edwards made his century from 104 balls.  On the very next deliver, Moises Henriques scored his own 100 from 105 balls.

Jack Edwards eventually fell for 116 from 112 deliveries in the 40th over.  Nick Larkin made a quick 18, but it was left to Moises Henriques and Peter Nevill to rein in the total in the 46th over.  New South Wales won by six wickets to move away from the bottom of the table.  Moises Henriques finished the match with an unbeaten 134 from 134 deliveries in an inspiring performance.
