The USA have made it eleven wins from eleven games against Australia at World Cup level. The Americans took out the trophy with a 73-56 win in the final.
The USA took a 20-15 lead into quarter time, and with a halftime score of 35-27, Australia were still well in the match. The Americans dominated the third quarter, scoring 26 points to just 11 from the Opals. Australia fought back in the fourth quarter, but the margin was too great to overcome. It is the tenth time the USA have been crowned World Champions in women’s basketball.

Seattle’s Breanna Stewart was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, and was named in the All-Star Five, alongside teammate Diana Taurasi, and Australia’s Liz Cambage. The other two spots went to Emma Meesseman of Belgium, and Spain’s Astou Ndour.
