West Coast Eagles have overcome a disastrous first quarter to defeat Collingwood 79-74 in the Grand Final to win the 2018 premiership, in front of more than 100,000 fans.
Collingwood kicked the first five goals, and led 31-2, before West Coast kicked two late goals in the first quarter, to go to the first break behind 31-14.
The second quarter was a tighter affair, but Collingwood went into the long break still ahead by 39-27. The Magpies were unable to fend off the fightback from West Coast in the third quarter. When Elliot Yeo scored late in the third quarter, West Coast went to the lead for the first time since their opening behind in the fifth minute.
The teams were level at 55-55 at three quarter time. Collingwood found something extra to kick the first two goals of the final term. American Mason Cox kicked Collingwood further ahead, but four behinds kept West Coast in the match. Dom Sheed kicked the final goal of the match, and West Coast hung on to win 79-74.
Josh Kennedy led the way with three goals. The Eagles were only in front for nine minutes of the match, but were on top when it mattered.
